ANIKULAPO: Movie Review and Download

MOVIE NAME: ANIKULAPO
GENRE: EPIC FANTASY
RELEASE DATE: 30TH SEPTEMBER 2022
ANIKULAPO is a popular Netflix original Yoruba movie with an old setting, produced and directed by Kunle Afolayan
I could say that the movie is about a man (Saro – Kunle Remi) who got a second chance at life but his pride got in the way and a woman (Arolake – Bimbo Ademoye) who thought she found love but was quite unfortunate.
In my neutral assessment, I would opine that the movie affirms that no human can be trusted. Even the holy book affirms that.
I guess blinded by love, Arolake trusted Saro to be that honest man for her, to the point of handing over the power to bring back life to who she thought would be the love of her life. She must have thought that her literarily rescuing him from the hands of death would make the man have eyes only for her, but life wouldn’t be that easy.
I could say that Saro must have truly loved Arolake. because, for the man to leave his booming textile business to run away with this woman to another strange land, counts for something… or maybe he thought it would be easy to start afresh in a new village, just like how he did before, then, I would say it was never loved, just an opportunity… One cannot really bank on a man who succumbs to being with another man’s wife…
Also, when people say that money determines a man’s real character, it is true. Saro became rich, famous and had the power of life in his hands, what more could he ask for? His pride and greed resurfaced, and his true self showed. At least Arolake got back her senses, which unfortunately resulted in Saro’s end.
I give it to the production team; they did a great job in the cinematography and the whole quality of the film. The actors did an amazing job of bringing this story to life, Kudos to them!
However, I have a little bone of contention…
This Akala bird is said to be a mystical creature, A god of some sort with the power to raise the dead… then, how can this creature allow itself to be interrupted by a mere mortal woman (Arolake)?
To see that the Akala bird flew away because of a hit with a stick by Arolake breaks my heart!
Asides from that, the movie is great. It’s a beautiful Netflix piece, an epic fantasy with a mix of drama, romance, action, heartbreak, and revenge!!!
If you haven’t graced your eyes with this piece, please, check it out!
Also, feel free to drop your opinion of the character!
