Criminal: The real Nollywood thriller!
Criminal is a Nollywood thriller realeased on May 2024. The movie is Dolapo Adigun and scripted by Niyi Akinmolayan.
Plot:
The movie centres on a criminal gang terrorizing a hospital as they try to save Chima’s life (the gang leader’s brother). Precisely Uzor is a criminal who shortly after his release ended up engaging in a crime that almost destroyed the life of his brother.
Review:
Criminal is actually one of its kind. The thrills, and plot twist will keep you on your toes till the end. The detail during the surgery scene is what I have never witnessed in Nigerian movies. I expected to see the doctors arm or other places in the theatre, not a detailed filming of bodily incisions with blood gushing out during the procedure. To top it off, I actually saw a baby covered in mucus. This was a first in all of the Nollywood films that I have watched and for this alone I applaud the producers and directors.
Furthermore, the progression from each scenes including the quality of the cinematography was excellent. In addition, the subtle explanation of the Doctor’s gut and fearlessness by showing a portrait of her in her army uniform was quite commendable, although it could easily be missed by viewers.
However, on an emotional and personal standpoint, I think the death of the gateman and the other patient killed was very much ignored at the end with no recognition of the lost lives but only the doctors bravery.
Overall, Criminal is the realest Nigerian action you could indulge in. it is an action with a feel of realism, spiced up with some family affection. Kudos to Uzor Urukwe and all the cast for bringing their A-game. And to all the production and makeup team…you guys did great.
